![]() When you realize the reasons that the four didn't score higher, then it sure seems like that as long as you support 4K and HDR, regardless of quality, it looks like you're guaranteed a 7.0. How does a set not supporting HDR still score over a 4 under the category of HDR Gaming? The remaining three the complaint was that the set didn't support HDR at all. The 4.5 set was knocked on since it was a 1080p set and not 4K. Of the four that scored below that, they scored a 4.5, 4.3, 4.2 and 4.1 for HDR Gaming. It turns out, out of the 72 TVs reviewed on their site, 68 of them scored a 7.0 and up. Then it dawned on me, I don't think I've ever seen a low HDR Gaming score for a TV before. Why would it score high for HDR Gaming simply because of latency rather than the HDR capability? Why would they also do that if they have a separate score for Video Games where the latency aspect belongs which they in fact talk about there too. What? That's their reason for a 7.9 score? To make it worse, they have a separate score for Video Games relating to the TV which it scored an 8.4. So I read the text relating to the score, and it says this: This is a TV set that doesn't have any local dimming, it doesn't support wide color gamut, and RTINGS' own score gave it a 5.1 in peak HDR brightness. That lead me to take a look at another TV that I've seen discussed recently, the TCL 4 series which shockingly has a 7.9 score for HDR Gaming. Most recently, I had noticed the monitor I just bought, an LG 27GL850, scored a 6.9 for it's HDR ability yet pretty much across the board elsewhere, the general consensus is that you're not going to view HDR content on it. Often, I would look at a review for a TV that someone was talking about and would be surprised that it scored so well in that category. Something that I've started to notice over time was something seemed off to me about RTINGS' HDR review scores. ![]() So posting this probably puts me in the minority in questioning the quality of their reviews but please bare with me and hear me out by reading this all the way through. They're often referenced when someone is asking if a TV is any good or what they should set their TV settings to. ![]() I know RTINGS is highly regarded on this forum. ![]()
